Between Boyfriends by Sarka-Jonae Miller

When Jan Weston is dumped by her boyfriend and cut off financially from her rich parents, she must learn to stand on her own two feet.

This book just was not for me. I just could not get into the story at all. I could show no empathy with the leading character, and I found the storyline dull and uninteresting.  However I did see small parts in the book that could have been potentially used to create a story that would have been more appealing to me.

Voodoo Child by Janice Horton

This is the third book in the Voodoo Romance series of novellas.

Not long after the birth of their first baby, Nola and Louis are expected to go to New Orleans, to take part in a bizarre baptism ceremony for their baby that is a traditional Voodoo event to their extended family. With it is also being an uncle’s last wish they feel obliged to go and to go through with the ritual celebration that the family claim will give their baby a legacy of special powers.

Spooky spells, mayhem, and magic follow, and with a mysterious painting thrown into the mix too, we know we are in for another fun and thoroughly entertaining read from author Janice Horton. This is a perfect Halloween read. I love all the quirky characters in the story and just the pure madness and fun of it all.

Saving Saffron Sweeting by Pauline Wiles

When Grace Palmer discovers that her husband James has been cheating on her, she flees their American home and returns to England. Not wanting to move back in with her parents she decides on a whim to go to the sleepy village of Saffron Sweeting, intending to blend in with the quiet village life and hide her away to contemplate her marriage.

However soon she finds herself quickly settling into the village, and with a neighbouring big company employing lots of Americans, and those who have gained employment looking for English homes, Grace soon finds herself helping give advice from her knowledge of living in America and through her work as an Interior designer to local business and she soon lands a job at the local estate agents helping the Americans to settle in England.

Grace makes friends quickly and even finds time for romance, but when husband James gets back in touch will she settle for her new life and move on? Or can James save their marriage?

I just loved this book. I just thought it was an amazing read. I just really liked the way after a marriage break up that it was not all doom and gloom and depressing, but straight away went into this really positive story.  The storyline is really good and very well written. What is great about this book is you could not predict what was going to happen. This is a book well worth reading and I look forward to reading more books by this author.

A State of Jane by Meredith Schorr

After breaking up from a nine year relationship with her high school sweetheart Bob, one year later Jane is ready to fall in love again and look for her Mr Right. She was the one that had ended the relationship, so Jane finds it a shock when she learns that Bob as already moved on, and has met and moved in with someone else. This makes Jane even more determined to find her man and it becomes her main focus, and it does end up interfering with her career plans, as she goes on a number of dates.  Will she find the love of her life?

I liked this book. There is not a lot that happens in it to be honest, but it is just one of those books that holds your attention and you can’t help but like leading lady Jane. It is very true to life and I like that and the wonderful way it is written has a lot to do with this being a really good read. This is a book worth reading nothing too heavy, just purely a nice relaxing laid back read that you will enjoy.

Love on the Backburner by Barbara Oliverio

Alexandra D’Agostino, loves to cook, she has the talent of a professional chef, but is self-taught from using family recipes and just having a natural talent for it. You would think this would have been Alex’s choice of career, but instead she had studied hard for a degree and works in marketing.

Unlucky in love she likes to show her love through food and she cooks on a number of dates foods which she thinks will not only impress her date but food that she hope that he will love. Alex does not always get this right, with sometimes hilarious results.

When she meets Cameron Grayson at work at first she finds him annoying, but she soon finds that they have a lot in common. Is her luck in love about to change?

When a change at work makes her look at her life and what she really wants, she is scared about making her decision, should she stick to what she knows or should she follow her heart?

A good simple romantic comedy, that not only as a nice twist at the end, but also the bonus of having some great recipes included at the back of the book.

Barbara Oliverio is the daughter of Italian immigrants and grew up with a love of books and a passion for learning. She lives in suburban Denver where she and her husband enjoy good food, travel, music and disputing pro football (Go Steelers!). She has been a teacher, journalist and marketer, and writes for everything from periodicals to the web. This is her first novel.
